Just a Few More Days

Gaga and Ol' Man are coming to town. Gaga is dying to go to Canton for the Trade Days flea market. She's bringing her camera ( since mine is all but kaput) and I'll take pics at first monday. They haven't met Devil Dog yet...that should be interesting.

I still haven't:
1. Cleaned the house
2. planned the menu
3. bought groceries
4. cleaned out the car

Something tells me I won't get that list finished. Filth or food...let me think. Food wins!!! If I can keep Gaga shopping maybe she won't notice.

I guess I should get my lazy butt up and do something....in a minute.

Unka Grampa

My Uncle Glenn, who my sister dubbed Unka Glenn at an early age just became a grampa for the first time! This means my cousin Mandy (who did all the babymaking) is now a mom (Duh!).

Hayden Kellis Hill was born on August 6, 2008 (her Daddy's birthday!) at 7:21 pm, 19.5 inches, 7 lbs. 2 oz.

Mommy and baby are doing great!

Unka Grampa came up with the middle name Kellis. It's the Irish version of Kelly, which is perfect because Unka is a McBride. Got Irish?

Here is a shot of mommy and Unka Grampa. Mirror images-and I thought I looked ridiculously like MY dad. I fully expected little Miss Hayden to be a triplicate copy.

Here is a really fuzzy pic of Unka Grampa and Aunt Megan. I'm not sure who the little man is, but he sure is adorable.

And here is the first family pic! I'm so happy for all of them...especially Unka Grampa because he has been waiting for this since I had my heathens.

Magnolia Pearl

My friend Phyllis is just nuts for Magnolia Pearl. MP is a woman who makes clothes that are very Stevie Nicks if you know what I mean (If you are under 30, google Stevie Nicks or Fleetwood Mac and learn some great music).

I recently bid on a Magnolia Pearl jacket as a present for Phyllis thinking I would get a great deal. In one day the ebay bids shot up over $200!!! I love Phyllis but let's not get crazy! I did however find Magnolia's blog http://www.magnoliapearlblog.blogspot.com . She's definitlely leads a different lifestyle~but don't the great ones do that?

Ugly Crap

Nice title, huh? I just stumbled onto a website where members surf the net for ugly stuff to post. http://community.livejournal.com/ugly_crap It is amazing some of the stuff on there. Some of it is ridiculously funny...but some of it I kind of like. Not much though. Just proves my point~no matter how ugly something is...someone will buy it.

Isshoes

My friend Mica (who just had a baby) has a 2 year old, Ashton. Key word being TWO. Apparently, Ashton was in the middle of a huge temper tantrum and his dad said "Boy, you have issues". This prompted Ashton to halt his hissy fit long enough to reply, "No daddy, I have Spiderman shoes."

Priceless!

Screaming Mimi's

Well, it finally happened...the day I was dreading...I found a...GULP!...snake at work. I am P-E-T-R-I-F-I-E-D of snakes. I picked up a tray of herbs (we took them off the shelves for the storm) and there he was. Makes my butt clench just thinking about it.

Needless to say I threw the tray in the air and took off cartoon style screaming like a banshee. I always have that dream where I'm screaming and no sound comes out. Nothing like that. Everyone inside the building came running out to see what happened. And...

They couldn't find it. Looked everywhere. Finally, Phyllis says "I wonder if it went under another tray" as she kicks the tray over and there he is! Again with the screaming. The mexicans are still laughing at me. Every time I walk by they yell and point "Bibira!" I thought that meant snake until I tried to look it up. It probably means ~make the sissy gringa jump~

Brownie Points

The other day my husband and I ran to the grocery to...well, get groceries. As we were leaving I noticed a little VW convertible bug parked next to us. I've been dying for one and I asked Mark if he agreed that I would look cute in one. His reply (without missing a beat) was "You'd look cute in anything"! All I could do was stare at him with my mouth hanging open in complete shock. Good answer!!

Fizzled

Ike pretty much pooped out as he got to us. Not that I'm complaining. We didn't even lose power! I'm shocked to say the least. There are hardly any branches down either. Let's just say the house is messier that the yard. But then again...it usually is.

Batten Down The Hatches!!

It's coming straight for us! Hurricane Ike is just past Galveston right now and headed for us. We have wind right now but it's not bad...give it a couple of hours. The rain should be here soon. I'm almost positive we will lose power, we always do when it's a heavy rain. When that happens we may be out for awhile. Although how would you know since I haven't been diligent with my posts.

We're ready for the storm! Batteries, check. Food, check. Propane for the grill, check. Ice and water, check. I also made an emergency run to Hobby Lobby and bought a polymer clay pasta machine. I'll have something to do during the storm. I guess the kids are SOL, I'm not sure how they will handle the technology withdrawal.

I let ya know how things turn out.

Gallery Opening

My friend Planet Hartwell has started a new blog that showcases her artwork. She calls herself a mad scrapper, and let me tell you her work is not your typical cutesy scrapbook enthusiast. It truly is artwork. Check out the new site and check it often! I think we'll see some really cool stuff in the future. http://planethartwellgallery.blogspot.com/

Funkadelic Mushrooms

I've been playing with my polymer clay lately and I finally figured out how to make canes. That's where you roll out a design into a long log and everytime you take a slice, it's the same design. I had the hardest time getting that to work! Some of the designs look like millefiori (you know those old glass paperweights with the glass flowers inside) and that's exactly what they are called. Here are my canes so far:

I'm having the best time with this stuff! I feel like I'm in kindergarten again with the play-do. Does anyone remember back to the stone age when play-do meant those funky grey chunks of clay the teacher would pull out of a jar. I digress...

Here are some of the mushrooms that I made for fairy gardens. I don't know why I've become fascinated with fairy gardens. I think it's the miniature factor, and the silliness factor. Or, it could be that I have a better chance of landscaping a mini garden before I will have a chance to get my yard in shape.

Laurie (boss at the paying job) let me borrow this little faux bois pot to display my mushrooms. At work I planted some of these with sedums and let me tell you they are so cute!!

I think I have a mushroom fixation too. At least it's not the illegal kind.
