You Go Boy!

This past Monday my hubby got himself all gussied up, even ironed a shirt(!), and went around to local nurseries hawking our plants. Those of you who know Mark are stunned aren't you. He is so quiet and unassuming most of the time. But he sure enough did it and made a sale! It's about $100 or so...but more important it's a new customer.

This means we aren't quite so dependent on my paying job to buy plants. He is still balking at going to First Monday, I think it's because we would only be able to sell 2 out the 5 days. Maybe later we can do the whole week. I have to deliver the plants today-he got called in to work today.

You would think I would be better at Sales (I am when they come to me) but to just walk in to another nursery and ask for them to buy my plants...makes me cringe. I'll try to work up the nerve to visit a few more places. Wish me luck!

AWWW How Cute

We had a batch of kittens a week or two ago. I know, I know. It seems we are always too late for at least one cat every time. This time it was Tiger

This is where Tiger chose to give birth...under my bathroom cabinet. Here is one of the babies. I had to snap fast because mommy is very protective. By the way, please ignore the tacky stenciled cabinet. It is the horror show that is my house-previous owner's handiwork. Here is Tiger snatching back one of the babies. She will pull them out of my hand! The only animals she will allow to get close are my dogs Tipper and Digger . Weird.

Another Long Week

It's been another week where I feel like I've been beaten up. We are ridiculously busy at the paying job (my commission check shows it too, YAY!!!) Sales on Etsy have picked up as well...I'm mailing plants all over the US. I've got at least 10 packages heading out on Monday.

One of which is another Sylwia creation. I think maybe she should come out and make some more. This one was really cool:

I think it looks like a handbag. I gave Sylwia full credit for it. I also put in the ad that I almost kept it. That's probably why it sold so fast...well, that and the fact that it looks so cute.

Say What?!?

It has been one hellacious week at the paying job. I had some old fart scream at me that I was trying to screw him (HMMM, not even with a tubful of margaritas). Another lady was ticked that I didn't have her plants re-potted when she popped by (maybe call first?), and she wasted her gas coming out.

Then there are the nut jobs who call to ask for an estimate on landscaping their yards....over the phone. Because I can see through the phone to look at their yard. The old lady who calls about her plant that's dying, it's green with leaves (that's specific). Or the woman who makes me pull every ligustrum shrub out because they need to be perfectly matched in height. Does she not think they will grow? Trust me, a 1/2 inch difference doesn't ruin the symmetry of the house!!!

One call made me giggle all day:
A lady called from that bank asking for the bookkeeper. Sheila was tied up so I took a message. "Can I get your name?" " My name is Shawanna West. That's W-E-S-T." Really. Out of those two names you felt compelled to spell west for me?!

Does everyone now understand why AJ and I don't like people?

Runs In The Family

When my sister (in-law) visited last month she helped me in the greenhouse. Sylwia created an assortment of cute little sedum plantings. I finally got around to listing one of them-a little teapot.
I listed it on Sunday night and by Monday afternoon it had already sold. She gets her talent from me. It's genetic. Don't let that whole born in Poland to another family thing fool you.

Epiphany

Today AJ and I each had an epiphany. After gettting chewed out the other day and customers yelling at me today, I realized I need to be the boss. Of course I already knew this and I'm working on it. But I realized that I need to kick things into high gear. Before I go postal.

AJ had an epiphany as well, he realized that he no longer wanted to sit on his butt and watch TV all day. Bored out of his skull. As we speak, he is making a daily routine to follow that includes school, work, exercise, and personal hygiene (yay!). I hope it sticks.

Mark, no epiphany. But he worked what little butt he has off today.

Cody, no eipiphany. Still lazy and unmotivated.

Maybe tomorrow?

Busy, Busy

We finally got our soil for planting! I would take a picture but the kids stole the batteries out of the camera! Why am I not surprised. Things have been just crazy! Work at the paying job has been nuts. Everyone has frazzled nerves. I try to stay out of the line of fire but I sustained battle injuries yesterday!
Let's just say someone was wanting to start a fight and I seemed the perfect patsy. I'm sure things will be better once the spring fever business subsides. I have some great people at work that I dearly love to be around-it makes up for the negatives. Plus, I'm selling plants from the garden sage like crazy. I'm completely out of my Louisiana phlox! I might work up the nerve to try to sell to other nurseries next week..depends on what I have left.
